Step 1: The Application & Meet-and-Greet

To start the journey and schedule a meet-and-greet, please fill out our official adoption application here.

 

An adoption volunteer will review your information to help determine which of our rescue dogs matches best with your lifestyle and home environment.

Step 2: The Hold Deposit

 

Once you find the perfect puppy or adult dog to join your family, we require a $100 non-refundable hold deposit. This secures the dog for you while our team works through the final approval process.

 

Step 3: Getting Fully Approved

 

We dive deep into our screening because we want the absolute best for these resilient survivors. To finalize your approval, we require:

• Two References: Must be non-relatives who do not live with you, who can speak to your experience with dogs.

• Housing Verification: Proof of home ownership or a copy of your lease/landlord agreement detailing any pet policies or exclusions.

• Home Visit: A physical home safety check to chat through any advanced questions or safety considerations.

 

Please note: Applying does not guarantee approval for all dogs or any specific dog. If you are unsure about your qualifications, please chat with a volunteer at 719-500-1880.

 

Step 4: Finalizing Adoption Fees & Records

 

Once approved, we will schedule your official adoption date! We will review the legally binding adoption agreement together so you can ask any questions before signing (we use Dropbox!). Finally, we will register you in our Petstablished system, granting you access to all medical records, literature, and coupons.

 

Adoption Fee Breakdown

Under 1 year old: $500 total fee

​

1 - 6 years old: $450 total fee

​

Seniors 6+ years old: $300 total fee

​

Behavior challenged (extensive training required): $350 total fee

​

Bonded pairs: $600 total fee 

 

Note: Your initial $100 (non-refundable) hold deposit is applied directly toward this total balance. Once paperwork and payment are complete, you will pick up your new family member directly from their foster home!

We set our dogs up for lifelong success. All adopters are required to complete an obedience class within the first 3 months of adoption at a professional facility of their choice.

 

Our Training Philosophy

​

We strictly advocate for positive, reward-based training. If you utilize fear- or force-based methods (such as shock collars, underground containment fencing, prong collars or leash snaps), we are not the right fit for your family. We believe in building trust, not fear.

 

Training is at the owner's expense, but when you email a copy of your graduation certificate to Pawhoofcolorado@gmail.com, we will happily refund $100 of your adoption fee!
